Asparagus with cheese sauce for Microwave


Asparagus is one of my favorite vegetables. Add cheese sauce and you have a winner. The recipe I am sharing with you today is a very quick and easy side-dish that will be ready in 10 minutes while you work on your main dish. The asparagus in cheese sauce is low in fat and high in iron and fiber. You can also swap the asparagus for any other vegetable you desire and use the same cheese sauce.

Asparagus with cheese sauce for Microwave


This is what you need

serves 2

1 serving is 290 cal.


1 box (425gr. – 15 oz) green asparagus spears

1 tbsp asparagus juice from the can

2 tomatoes

salt and pepper to taste

1 cup of milk

1 tbsp flour + 2 tbsp cold milk

½ cup of shredded cheese (melting type) of your choice

a pinch of chopped parsley

Handy in the kitchen

This is what you do

  1. Place the asparagus in a micro safe bowl and pour 1 tbsp of asparagus juice from the can on top. Cover the bowl and warm on full effect 2-3 minutes

  2. Slice the tomatoes and place them on top of the asparagus, add salt and pepper.

  3. Mix the flour with the 2 tbsp of cold milk until it thickens, warm the rest of the milk on full effect for a few seconds, add the cold milk/flour mix to the lukewarm milk and stir well. Boil the sauce on full effect for 3-4 minutes. Stir now and then.

  4. Stir the cheese into the sauce, pour the sauce over the vegetables and warm the dish on full effect for 1-2 minutes Sprinkle some parsley on top and you are ready to serve.

Notes; Fresh or frozen asparagus need to be boiled with a little bit of water before you start preparing this dish. Full effect in 4-7 minutes, depending on the thickness of the stalks.

Asparagus with cheese sauce is a great side-dish, and goes specially well with poultry and pork. It can also be served as a light lunch with fresh bread.
